Bruhn (2005) discusses how emotions and culture are linked. Read Bruhn pages 245 - 248 "How Emotions Express Culture" As you read, use the questions below to help you sum up Bruhn’s key ideas on emotions and culture. What does Bruhn say about emotions? What is the relationship between emotions and culture? Compare ideas: Bruhn's key ideas As you read through the paper, highlight where these key ideas appear. TIP: This will be useful for assessment task 3. Every society provides a unique cultural context to teach emotions and emotional expressions. Our emotions usually have consequences for ourselves and others. Emotions sustain us and provide a support mechanism for cultural groupings. Cultural groupings determine the spectrum of emotions available to us. Emotions are sometimes communicative because we want to express to others how we feel. Many of our emotional displays are a response to the social relationships in which we are engaged. Your culture will dictate how and when different emotions can be displayed.
